Fear is an emotion that everyone feels at times, and it can manifest into many different forms. There is fear of rejection, fear of what may happen tomorrow, fears that manifest into phobias or hatred. The list goes on and on. Add to that the countless stories of bankruptcies, job losses and violence, and our fears can ratchet up even higher. Fear has a way of disconnecting us from our divine source, leaving us feeling trapped and helpless. But there are ways to let go of fear, and step into a more connected and empowered place.

Take a Break from the News

There are a world of news sources at our fingertips, such as television, newspapers and the Web. But this 24/7 news access can leave you feeling in a heightened state of fear, which serves no useful purpose. Distance yourself from news sources as much as possible and choose uplifting, enriching activities instead. Staying informed is fine, but allow yourself only a certain amount of news access each day so that you don’t become overwhelmed.

Have an Attitude of Gratitude

Make it a habit each day to take stock of what you are thankful for in life. Notice and enjoy the things you may often take for granted, such as the taste of the food you are tasting, the beauty of nature or the sound of your children’s laughter.  Savor each moment of the day and let thankfulness fully enter your heart.

Meditate

Meditation calms the mind, body and spirit which helps release any fear you‘re experiencing. Find a quiet place to do conscious breathing meditation or any form of meditation you’re comfortable with. If you’re new to meditation, there are guided meditation CD’s available that can help you release your fears.

Take Part in a Daily Spiritual Practice

Connect with your divine source through your own spiritual practice, whether it be through prayer, yoga, reading spiritual books or spending time in nature. Take the time to nurture your spirit and foster a deep connection with your Higher Self.

Create a Mandala

Mandalas are circular designs found in many cultures and spiritual traditions. They are a symbol of wholeness that can help you realize your place in the sacred, intricate web of life. The Mandala Healing Kit, by Judith Cornell, is an excellent healing tool for those new to mandala drawing. There are also many books available with mandala designs that you can color. The meditative process of drawing or coloring mandalas can be a good way to release your fears and calm your spirit.

By taking an active part in healing and releasing your fears, you can experience a greater connection with all that is sacred, and live a more full, joyful life.

And don't forget to laugh! Laughter is a HUGE stress reliever and, if you're stuck in fear or any other "negative" emotion, humor can lighten your spirit. From that lighter perspective, life is easier to deal with. =)
