Amethyst is a crystal with a purple or violet coloring. This beautiful crystal is one of the most valued in the quartz family and has long been used for spiritual and healing purposes. The name amethyst comes from the Greek word amethystos which, loosely translated, means not intoxicated. This refers to the fact that the ancient Greeks believed amethyst to be a protection against intoxication.
