Lavender is a fragrant herb with a sweet, woodsy scent that has long been known for its medicinal, therapeutic and spiritual properties. The Romans used lavender in their baths as a way to treat skin ailments, and the Greeks used burned dried lavender as a type of incense to promote feelings of calm and peace. Lavender is still known today as an herb that relieves tension and helps to gently lift one‘s mood. Aside from these physical benefits, lavender is also very beneficial at a spiritual level.

Spiritual and Magical Uses

Lavender is aligned with feelings of tranquility and peace, so it’s an excellent herb to use whenever you want to feel more calm and centered. Add a few drops of lavender essential oil to your bathwater, or toss in a small handful of dried lavender buds, and relax in the warm, scented water.

Because of lavender’s purification properties, it’s excellent to use for clearing away negative energy. Fill a spray bottle with purified water and a few drops of lavender essential oil. Spray it in any area of your home where you feel there’s a buildup of negative energy.

Lavender can also be used to help cleanse and strengthen your aura. A good way to do this is with a ritual purification bath. Add the lavender essential oil or dried lavender to your bathwater, as you would with the relaxation use. Once you’re in the bath, visualize all stagnant energy and negativity being cleansed away from your aura.

Dried lavender can be wrapped in a cloth sachet and placed under your pillow to help encourage peaceful and lucid dreams.

Because lavender can help you feel grounded and centered, it’s a good herb to use during meditation or divination. For this purpose you can heat lavender essential oil in an essential oil burner, or you can burn lavender incense.

With its ability to promote feelings of love, compassion and peace, lavender is excellent for opening and healing the heart chakra. This can be done by burning lavender incense, or enjoying a nice cup of lavender tea.

With its calming scent and spiritually healing properties, lavender can help bring peace and harmony to your life.
