The solar plexus chakra, also known as the third chakra, is located in the area just below the sternum and an inch or two above the navel. This is the energy center where your sense of self-worth and personal power reside. It is the level of being that we think of as ego or personality.

The element associated with the solar plexus chakra is fire, a fire that burns warm and steady when this chakra is open and balanced. If the fire dies down, you may feel cut of from your emotions, tired and withdrawn. But if the fire burns too brightly you may become hardened , self-centered or feel the need to dominate.

Peace is the positive aspect of the solar plexus chakra. When it is clear and in balance, you can be more at peace with yourself and the world around you. This peace and centeredness can steer you away from self-defeating tendencies, protect against fear and the destructive tendencies of others.

Under active energy: lowered self-esteem, overly sensitive to criticism, fearful, difficult time making decisions, sense of emptiness, distrustful

Overactive energy: bullying or dominating behavior, narcissism, easily irritated, perfectionist

Parts of the body governed: Digestive system, pancreas, eyes, adrenal cortex, kidneys, spleen, liver.

Crystals and Gemstones: Yellow Tourmaline, Jasper, Topaz, Amber, Citrine

Fragrances: Peppermint, Chamomile, Lavender, Rosemary, Bergamot

Nurturing the solar plexus chakra involves realizing that we all have a personal path to follow in this life and taking responsibility for our lives. Put simply, it is maturing and growing from childhood to adulthood. While you can still have the dreams of childhood, in the place of a balanced solar plexus chakra, you can discern if those dreams are right for you. Then, if so, you can take the steps to make those dreams come true in your life.

Catryce CooperThank you for this. I just realized the obvious -- I have an under active third chakra. Now I can work on it! :-)
