Ever since the release of the book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne, along with the movie of the same name, the term Law of Attraction has become a well-known, household phrase. The theory behind the Law of Attraction is that the energy sent out with our thoughts and feelings, whether positive or negative, will attract similar energies. In other words, we are like a living magnet attracting the things we want and don't want into our lives through our beliefs and thoughts.
History of the Law of Attraction
Although interest in the Law of Attraction skyrocketed after the publication of The Secret, the theory is not a new one. In 1906, the phrase was used in the New Thought book Thought Vibration or the Law of Attraction in the Thought World, written by author and publisher William Walker Atkinson. Another writer associated with the New Thought movement wrote about the theory the following year in his book Prosperity Through Thought Force. The theory of the Law of Attraction and related ideas were also touched upon many times throughout the 1900's by authors such as Alice Bailey and Louise Hay.
How Law of Attraction Works
The Law of Attraction is practiced through something known as intention manifestation. What we intend, whether subconsciously or consciously, is what eventually manifests in our lives. The trick is to rid the mind of negative and limiting thoughts that can be self defeating. This happens by concentrating purposefully on the positive things you desire until the negative thought patterns eventually slip away.
The active process of intention manifestation involves three steps in order to achieve what you desire.
Form a clear intention- In order for the desire to be achieved you need to have a clear idea of what you want.
Believe in your intention- The emotional energy attached to your intention needs to be positive. In other words, you need to believe the intention will succeed.
Manifestation occurs- During this stage you are aware and receptive. You're not sitting back waiting for things to come to you. You're aware of opportunities that come your way and are taking an active role in the manifestation process.
This final step is very important and is often left out by those new to the theory of the Law of Attraction. A common misconception is that manifestation occurs simply by asking for or visualizing whatever it is you desire. But you can't attract what you want without putting mental energy and physical effort into the process.
The Law of Attraction will not necessarily change your life overnight. But it can be a way attract abundance and positive changes into your life.
