Five Cool things to do in Las Vegas, Nevada : Open in New Window

Las Vegas is known for its casinos but there is so much more to do in the city than just gamble. Every casino hotel is a mini city with stores, restaurants, entertainment and of course, slot machines, blackjack tables, poker tables and roulette wheels. So next time you are in Vegas, why not take a break from the tables and:

1. Learn to drive a race car.
Learn to drive a NASCAR race car with the “King”, at Richard Petty’s race school or take a spin in an Indy car at Mario Andretti’s racing school. Race a Corvette at Racing Adventures. What ever type of racing you prefer; there is a racing school for you at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Prices vary from school to school and length of program.

2. Go shopping
Every hotel on the strip has a mall inside it. You can shop for high end designer dubs with your winnings from the poker tables at Caesars Place. The Fashion Show Mall, also located on the strip, with over 250 stores and seven department stores to choose from, is a great place to shop for mid-range priced items and the factory outlet malls offer great deals on brand name merchandise. You can shop ‘till you drop ‘cause the stores are open late every night.

3. Visit the House of Blues on Sunday morning for their Gospel Brunch
“Praise the Lord and pass the biscuits!” Feed your body and your soul - enjoy a Sunday morning breakfast buffet and some down home gospel music at the House of Blues located in the Mandalay Bay hotel. Nothing like gospel music to cure all that ails you, especially on a Sunday morning. ($39 US per person)
4. Take a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon
The Grand Canyon is just a short helicopter ride from Las Vegas. See the Canyon from the air when you take any of the half day helicopter trips available from Las Vegas. Fly over Lake Mead and the Hoover dam enroute to the Canyon. Enjoy a picnic lunch on the Canyon rim before returning to Las Vegas. Or take one of the combination trips that include air to the Canyon, a helicopter tour and a rafting trip. Prices start at $349 US per person.

5.. Take in some of the free entertainment on the strip
Left all your cash in the casino? No worries, there is plenty of free entertainment on the strip.

Described as a “show of water, music and light thoughtfully interwoven to mesmerize its admirers” the Fountains of Bellagio entertain spectators every ½ hour from 3 pm until 8 pm.
Take in the Freemont Street experience and enjoy the “World's Largest Laser Computer-Driven Light Show”. The light and sound show happens every hour on the hour from dusk until midnight. It takes place under a five block canopy and features over 12 million lights. It is worth a visit to the old part of the city to take in this exciting extravaganza.
The Sirens of Treasure Island show takes place every evening at 5:30 pm, 7:00 pm, 8:30 pm, and 10:30 pm front of Treasure Island Hotel. Watch the Sirens lure the pirates to their cove and have their way with them.
Watch the water volcano erupt every evening from 7 pm until midnight in front of the Mirage Hotel. (NOTE: fountains are currently closed for renovations and are expected to open again by the end of 2008 – well worth waiting for)
