Just what is space camp? It is an opportunity for children or adults to experience what it would be like to be an astronaut. Space camp programs can last anywhere from two days to a full week. Children must be over nine years old to participate and the programs are designed to give budding astronauts a chance to see if they have the right stuff.

Space Camp takes place at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville AL. Campers stay over at the facility and are subject to a structured schedule. A typical day at space camp would include time in a weightless simulator, a chance to learn about the space program and astronomy in general, opportunities to complete experiments similar to those done by astronauts in space and simulation training much like real astronauts experience. There are also specialty programs that include robotics and aviation where campers get the chance to “fly” an F-15 fighter jet.
