Wirelessly View Your Computer on Your New HDTV

A number of companies are now selling wireless transmitters that send the Video from your PC directly to your television or HDTV set without the need to run long and expensive cables. While the quality of the signal may not be as good as with a hard wired connection from your Video card, these wireless Video adapters effortlessly turn your new 50 inch HDTV into an instant 50 inch monitor for gaming or simply showing the media that you have stored on your computer.

Wireless Video adapters have other uses as well. Use them to send Video from your PC to a Video projector mounted on the ceiling or on the other side of the room during a presentation or in a classroom setting. You can move around the room without having to worry about the cable between the two getting in the way.

Companies such as Plextor have models that operate using standard Wifi connections. Others by Aitech are less expensive but require more space.

How is this different from WebTV?

At the risk of sounding like I reall know nothing (and to be honest, I barely know anything about my computer), is what you are talking about very different from the old fashioned WebTV...only wireless?

You could compare this idea to WebTV, but really computers are so much more powerful now that the comparison ends where the new capabilities end. I never had WebTV, but as I recall back then you couldn't record or watch Video on your computer very well. Today you can turn an old computer into a home made DVR box and then shoot that Video out to your TV or HDTV. So yes, I guess it is the same idea, but there is so much more that you can do these days that it makes it more desirable. Plus you don't have to pay a subscription fee or anything to do it.
