Only 5 to 10% of breast cancers are thought to be hereditary. I wrote an article recently about reducing a woman\'s chance of breast cancer--http://www.lestout.com/article/health-beauty-fitness/natural-health-wellness/reduce_risk_breast_cancer.html I think the issues raised in the article are more important than heredity; at least they are things you can do something about.
About chest pains--see your physician. It's not likely to be cancer but there are other concerns that should be looked into.
for the advice doc... I was really worried about the chest pains... I'll see a doctor as soon as I get some free time... But tight bra straps? increases tha likelihood of breast cancer??
I know it's difficult to picture the lymphatic system because most people don't know it exists, but imagine fluid flowing just under the skin vertically while you move throughout the day. The lymph, which is critical for the immune system, is trying to flow up to the right collar bone where it dumps into the blood stream for filtering. The horizontal bra band that encircles the chest can, if it's too tight, cut off this flow. So wear bras as little as possible and when you do, wear them as loose as modesty will allow.
Yep, thanks for the advice, I'll surely tell that to my girlfriend she is the one experiencing some chest pains... and I'll remind her about the bra!
Thanks for this bit of info.. it might be a small detail but if it could help in reducing the risk of getting cancer then I'll tell everyone I know!
I think Zero. Here are some breast cancer prevention tips. Some risk factors for cancer can be avoided, but many cannot. For example, both smoking and inheriting certain genes are risk factors for some types of cancer, but only smoking can be avoided. Regular exercise and a healthy diet may be protective factors for some types of cancer. Avoiding risk factors and increasing protective factors may lower your risk but it does not mean that you will not get cancer.
Avoid hormone replacement therapy. This menopausal treatment raises breast cancer risks. If you must take hormones to manage symptoms, avoid medications with progesterone and limit their use to less than three years. So-called bioidentical hormones are no safer.
Consider taking an estrogen-blocking drug. Women over 60 or with a family history of breast cancer should talk to their doctor about drugs such as tamoxifen and raloxifene.
Don’t smoke. Research suggests long-term smoking is associated with increased breast cancer risk in some women.
I think it is possible to inherit the breast cancer. Mostly of the doctor ask this if one of your family has this history.
