Vitamin D - should I be supplementing?

I'm hearing so much about Vitamin D. I'm a type 2 diabetic (controlled by diet and exercise) and I was told that I should really be taking Vitamin D, especially since I'm Canadian and really don't get a lot of sun, and can't stomach much dairy. Does anyone know the real scoop on Vitamin D and how much is recommended?

Sunlight and Vitamin D

I wrote an article about just that question; see http://www.lestout.com/article/health-beauty-fitness/natural-health-wellness/sunlight_vitamin_d.HTML It's important to supplement to get enough vitamin D when you live in the colder parts of the globe.

Sun exposure

Sun exposure is one of the good source of vitamin D but it should be also consider that so much exposure into the sun could also cause skin cancer and etc.
