Wanted: Your Entertaining Disaster Stories
Come on, I know you have some! Maybe you served ham to Jewish friends at Passover, or mistook habaneros for green peppers and made an inedible main dish. Perhaps you brought together some unlikely dinner guests - a staunch Republican hunting enthusiast and the ultra-liberal PETA president. Ah, ain't entertaining fun? The great thing about entertaining disasters is that we can all laugh about them later. Share with me some of your stories, include your first name and city, and email me at diane.fitzpatrick@mac.com. You'll be included in my Entertaining Disasters article in early '08.

My entertainng disaster story
Diane I have a doozy of a story. Though the disaster wasn't really my doing. I'm a vegetarian and I'm married to someone who is allergic to dairy and strawberries. Most berries, anyway. We made friends with a lovely couple and often went out with them to movies or for dinner and food never really was part of our discussion. So one day they invited us over for brunch. I had told our host about the allergies and so on, so didn't think it was a big deal. We arrived to a lovely Sunday brunch, complete with beef sausages, bacon (which I don't eat) and strawberry crepes with a creamy sauce (which my husband couldn't eat). So we ended up having toast, while they ate all the lovely brunch foods. Another time I was invited for dinner to my brother's house. They served what looked like a delicious leg of lamb and veggies. As the food was passed around the table I didn't say anything and just helped myself to salad. My sister in law gasped, and thought I was being rude. When I explained that I'm actually vegetarian because I don't digest meat well, she seemed to calm down. The kicker? She got me a cheese slice from the fridge and tossed it on to my plate. Hahaha! I guess there are "being a guest" disasters too.
