I thought about buying a fuel-economy meter for about $160 that gives an instantaneous and long-term fuel economy reading. Then I thought, why not just keep the RPMs down. So both my wife and I are trying to keep the RPMs below 2000. This insures that the car accelerates slowly and efficiently. Larger cars may have to increase that to 2500 for the car to accelerate. The improvement, based on just one tank of city driving was about 2 MPG. We're also going to make sure our tires are well inflated.
