I went from the US to Ireland and England last year. Just remember - whatever rules about carry-on restrictions when traveling to and from the US - - these could change to more strict rules for flights within Europe.
For instance, I was allowed to take certain things to Dublin from the US, but when I tried to fly from Dublin to England, some of my carry-on items got taken away.
