Dr. Barry Lycka - Founder and CEO
Barry A. S. Lycka is one of North America's foremost authorities on cosmetic surgery, skin cancer surgery, reconstructive surgery and laser surgery of the skin. He is asked frequently to share his knowledge of cosmetic surgery at international symposia such as the American Academy of Dermatology and the ASCDAS. For the latter, of which he served as vice president in 2004-2006, and was instrumental in saving this society from bankruptcy. Dr. Lycka is also founder of the Canadian Skin Cancer Foundation and the Ethical Cosmetic Surgery Association.
Dr. Lycka also is an acknowledged leader in North American in the cosmetic surgery procsure of liposuction , having received instruction from many of the world's authorities including Patrick Lillis, Bill Hanke, William Coleman and Jeffrey Klein. He was one of the first to use the tumescent and eXtrinsic tumescent ultrasonic (XTUL) techniques. He is now one of the first to adapt powered instruments in his treatment. He frequently has patients come to him from out of the country. This includes patients from The mid and far East, the United States and Europe.
Dr. Lycka also takes the time to teach the next generation of cosmetic surgeons. He frequently has other cosmetic surgeons visit his office, and has had cosmetic surgeons form as far away as Austarlia. He also frquently visits other cosmetic surgeons offices to share expertise.
Dr. Lycka operates an approved Non-hospital Surgical Facility at First Edmonton Place in Edmonton. In doing so, he places patient safety paramount. Doctor Lycka is also a member of the esteemed American Society of Surgical Professors (the teachers of the teachers) and is one of a few Canadians to join this erudite group. He is happily married to Lucie Bernier-Lycka, a family physician, and they have four daughters. Recently, they celebrated their 25th anniversary.
Dr. Lycka has numerous speaking engagements in a year. Regularly, he lectures at the American Academy of Dermatology. He has also lectured at Dermatology 2000, Dialogues in Cosmetic Dermatology, the Hawaii Dermatology Society, the Pacific North Western Dermatology Society, the American Society of Cosmetic Surgery and Dermatology, The American Society of Surgical Dermatology, the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons and the Canadian Dermatology Society.
In 2001 - 2006 he has given numerous lectures at the American Academy of Dermatology, and to the prestigious American Society of Surgical Specialists. He has also been invited to speak at the Florida Society of Dermatologic Surgeons, to give the prestigious Leonard Lewis Memorial lecture.
In 2003, Dr. Lycka ran a course called The Masters Course in Cosmetic Surgery, which doctors attended from around the world.
He has shared the podium with many of the world's authorities, including Alastair Carruthers, the co-inventor of the cosmetic use of Botox: Patrick Lillis, one of the pioneers of liposuction, Patrick Bitter Jr, the inventor of the photo-facial procedure, and hundreds of other authorities in dermatologic surgery.
From 2001 - 2006, Dr. Lycka has won the Consumer's Choice award for Cosmetic Surgery in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
