Mary Rayme has worked as an art director, graphic designer and teacher for over 15 years.
Mary grew up in and around Baltimore, Maryland and later moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In 1985 Mary helped to launch a co-op Gallery in Havre de Grace, Maryland.
Ms. Rayme worked in the Baltimore Museum of Art as a library and curatorial assistant for several years. Rayme also worked as an arts administrator at the Maryland Institute College of Art and later as a librarian at The Johns Hopkins University Library in Baltimore, Maryland.
Rayme went on to work as an art director in publishing and advertising in Baltimore and Philadelphia where she worked with clients from National Geographic to the Philadelphia Art Director's Club.
In 1999, Rayme moved to the Potomac Highlands of West Virginia and opened a small design studio. Ms. Rayme has taught PhotoShop on the Macintosh at a small local college for 8 years.
1n 2003, she co-wrote and co-produced the documentary film, Inspired Folk that featured folk and outsider artists from West Virginia. Ms. Rayme's partner for this project was Gerry Milnes, a well-published Appalachian folklorist at the Augusta Heritage Center.
A graduate of the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, Maryland, Ms. Rayme had the privilege of being taught by some of the best art teachers and working artists on the east coast of the United States such as: Joan Watson, Jane Hammond, Barry Nemmett, Howie Weiss, Peter Collier, Simon Gouverner, Jan Pierce Stinchcomb, and Christine Neill.
For the last several years she has dedicated most Fridays to teaching a hands-on arts project at her son's local Elementary School. Rayme also donates her graphic design work to a local historic preservation non-profit.
